About ScaleUp Bio Pte. Ltd:

  • We are a newly built start-up to lead the food revolution through submerged microbial fermentation, providing CDMO services for the food industry.
  • We are the first dedicated food-grade precision fermentation laboratory in Singapore and amongst few in the world truly catered towards start-ups and emerging food tech companies.

  • This new role will be reporting to the Operation Manager as well as the Process Engineer Manager.

 

Your Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrate a strong understanding of the manufacturing of Upstream (Fermentation) processes.
  • Possess practical experience with Fermenters and associated equipment across a range of scales, from small to large.
  • Skilfully troubleshoot fermentation process issues related to equipment and overall process to ensure seamless operations, and a hands-on individual to work at the workshop area.
  • Showcase proficiency in both Batch and Fed Batch phases within the fermentation process.
  • Exhibit hands-on experience in both intra-cellular and extra-cellular Microbial fermentation processes.
  • Take charge of operating, optimising, and stabilising the upstream manufacturing process.
  • Showcase your expertise in Contract Development and Manufacturing Organization (CDMO) processes, including customer management.
  • Demonstrate a successful history of scaling up fermentation processes from small to large scale.
  • Utilise your experience to resolve contamination issues in the fermentation process.
  • Take responsibility for training the manufacturing team and ensuring strict adherence to all procedures during the process.
  • Exhibit hands-on experience in project-related activities, specifically equipment qualification and process validation for fermentation processes.
  • Prepare comprehensive process-related documents in collaboration with the Quality Assurance team.

 

Your Profile:

  • Bachelor’s or higher degree in a relevant field.
  • 3-5 years proven experience in upstream manufacturing with a focus on fermentation processes.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills and a proactive problem-solving mindset.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Familiarity with CDMO processes and customer management.
  • Ability to lead projects and work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Willing to work in the workshop area closely with the Ops team.

  • This person will report to the Operational Manager and the Process Engineer Manager and work together with the Ops Team.

 

Your Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrate strong knowledge in the manufacturing of Downstream processes, including Fermented broth, Protein separation & purification.
  • Hands-on experience in operating and optimising Continuous centrifuge and Homogeniser for efficient cell separation.
  • Proficient in the operation of Microfiltration and Ultrafiltration systems, encompassing Hollow fiber and Spiral modules.
  • Hands-on experience with Chromatography systems and related downstream processes.
  • Practical experience in the Spray drying process.
  • Extensive experience in various downstream processes, ranging from small scale to higher scale.
  • Proficient in identifying and resolving issues related to downstream manufacturing equipment and processes.
  • Experience in Microbial downstream processes, both intra-cellular and extra-cellular, including separation and purification methods.
  • Responsible for operating, optimising, and stabilising downstream manufacturing processes.
  • Familiarity with Contract Development and Manufacturing Organization (CDMO) processes and adept at customer management.
  • Proven experience in scaling up downstream processes from small scale to large scale.
  • Train and oversee the manufacturing team, ensuring adherence to all procedures during the process.
  • Hands-on experience in project-related activities, including equipment qualification and process validation for downstream processes.
  • Collaborate with the QA team to prepare all process-related documents in adherence to quality standards.

  • Newly set up, we embrace entrepreneurship. You will be surrounded by innovation plus responsibilities which you can be hands-on with actual work from day one.
  • ScaleUp Bio is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Quality System Specialist / Assistant Manager to join our team. The Quality System Specialist / Assistant Manager will be responsible for establishing and maintaining quality / food safety-related systems. These can include document control, change control management, customer complaints, and various audits.
  • The successful candidate will cover both of our facilities at Biopolis (Singapore) and Tuas (Singapore) and will be reporting to the QA / QC Manager.

Your Responsibilities:

  • Assist QA Manager in the implementation of food safety and quality systems, actively participate in food safety efforts and ensure all activities conform to good manufacturing practices.
  • Manage, plan, implement, and continuously improve the Food Safety / Quality programs in the ScaleUp Bio facilities.
  • Serve as the Food Safety Team member and is actively involved in all HACCP Plans.
  • Responsible for management of the Supplier Programs including complaints management and feedback.
  • Manage the conduct of local supplier audits to ensure that suppliers are qualified.
  • Lead Change Control Management.
  • Manage Document Control Program.
  • Manage the local Mock Recall exercise.
  • Assist QA Manager in crisis situations, such as a potential product recall, high profile customer complaint.
  • Set up, implement, and maintain the HALAL Assurance System. Main liaison with MUIS (Majlis Ugama Islam Singapura).
  • Manage the conduct of internal audit program and ensure compliance to requirements of GMP / HACCP pre-requisite programs, Quality systems, Halal assurance system.
  • Assist QA Manager to prepare for external audits and ensure agreed audit findings are corrected and preventive measures are put in place.
  • Manage the customer complaint handling system – evaluation, investigation and corrective / preventive action planning, implementation and monitoring.
  • Work with multi-disciplinary teams to ensure the progress timeline.
  • Ensure safe working practices in research labs, pilot plants, and manufacturing facilities to meet or exceed safety goals.
  • Any other tasks related to the quality system, as assigned by QA Manager.

Your Profile:

  • Bachelor’s degree with 5+ years’ experience or equivalent in Food Science / Food Technology or related field.
  • Industrial experience is desired
  • Experience in setting up quality system and food safety system in the food industry.
  • Trained in HACCP/ FSSC 22000 internal audit.
  • Lead auditor certification would be a plus.
  • Familiarity with microbial communities and fermentation process would be a plus.
  • Strong communication and organisation skills, be able to multi-task and exhibit a strong sense of urgency in order to accomplish daily tasks.
  • Be self-motivated with the ability to manage time and priorities; must be able to work independently in a team environment, maintain a positive attitude.
  • Strong writing skills and fluent in English.
